 Allied Health Project (May 08)

GPPHCNT is seeking to identify key issues in allied health recruitment and retention for NT Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS), including baseline funding, costs and whether GPPHCNT can assist you by delivering allied health recruitment and retention services to NT ACCHS. This will be undertaken by a survey. In developing this survey, GPPHCNT sought advice from representatives of Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT), Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH) and Primary Health Care Research, Evaluation and Development (PHCRED).

For the purpose of this survey, GPPHCNT has defined Allied Health professionals as Audiology, Dietetics, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Psychology, Speech Pathology and Social Work. When answering the questions in the survey, please only consider this list of Allied Health professionals.

GP Lifestyle Change (September 2007)Dr Megan Cope and family

Rural Health Workforce Australia has established a new website www.gplifestylechange.com.au with a series of seven short documentaries entitled 'Seachange, Treechange, Lifestyle Change...' This series provides the opportunity for the urban GPs to hear directly from Australian trained GPs who have made the shift from the city to rural or remote practice. They and their partners share their motivations, challenges and rewards in candid portrayals.

Dr Megan Cope is one of the GPs currently practicing at the Wurli Wurlinjang Aboriginal Health Service located in Katherine.  Together with husband Jamal, Megan talks about moving to the Northern Territory, the challenges the family faced and how they have adapted and embraced their new lifestyle.  Megan and her family truly love the different experiences in Katherine and you are invited to hear their story.  Please click on the picture to go directly to her story, or click on the link above to hear the stories from other GPs practicing in Rural and Remote Australia.
